Arctic blast brings deep freeze to the Bronx

High pressure building south and east from central Canada has brought the coldest air of the winter season to The Bronx. Since wind chill values will not drop to 25 degrees below zero Friday morning, the wind chill warning that was in effect has been downgraded to a wind chill advisory. Winds will continue from the northwest at 15 to 25 mph Friday morning with gusts to 35 mph at times. The combination of the strong winds and temperatures in the single digits will yield wind chill values of 15 to 20 degrees below zero. A wind chill advisory is issued when a strong wind will combine with cold temperatures to create dangerously cold conditions for exposed skin. The wind will make it feel like it is 15 to 20 degrees below zero for a period of several hours. Those planning to go outdoors should dress warmly making sure that all exposed skin is covered.
