BX Borough Board's first meeting of the year focuses on homeless issue

The homeless problem in the Bronx was one topic on the borough board's agenda.

Bronx Borough Board members held their first meeting of the New Year. As part of the meeting, city agencies were invited to speak about the homeless problem in the borough.

One surprise to board members was that the city has opened a second Emergency Assistance Unit in Manhattan. Bronx officials were upset that they were never told. They say more communication is needed to properly address the homeless problem.

Currently, about 25 percent of homeless shelter units for the city are located in the Bronx.
