Oil spills onto Kingsbridge Road after tanker accident

Bronx police said an oil tanker accident Sunday morning was the result of the driver's excessive speed.The oil tanker that was carrying about 2,000 gallons of home heating oil was traveling east on Kingsbridge Road when the driver lost control. The tanker hit two parked cars and a livery cab headed in the opposite direction.The tanker then flipped and spilled at least 1,000 gallons into the street. Police on the scene said about 500 gallons made its way into the sewers. Fire officials said the oil isn't a danger to Bronx residents. The oil tanker's driver suffered minor injuries. The cab driver was also taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Fire and police officials said things could have been much worse if the tanker was carrying explosive gas.
