Schools chancellor announces plan to help Bronx schools

New York City Schools Chancellor Joel Klein has announced a plan to help revamp Bronx public schools

Chancellor Klein says there are many problems with Bronx and NYC public schools, but the city lacks the funding to fix all of them. Klein is hoping to get the $13 billion needed to revamp the school system when the state budget is approved July 31.

The chancellor would use some of the money to pay teacher differentials and give teachers more support. Klein would also create more summer programs, lower class size and give more money to needy schools.

Klein also stated that schools outside the Bronx and NYC receive $2,000 to $3,000 more per pupil.
