A couple of Bronx residents feel snowed under by tickets

Two Bronx residents were each issued $100 tickets for not clearing their sidewalks.

Both men say they salted and shoveled their sidewalks the day following the recent snowstorm. One of them claims a plow recovered the sidewalk overnight, and the next morning it was solid ice. Each household received a ticket a few hours later.

It is the responsibility of each Bronx property owner to clear off sidewalks. An official from the Sanitation Department says they will issue a ticket if snow and ice remain 24 hours after a storm.

A ticket can be contested at the Environmental Control Board in each of New York City's five boroughs. They are open for sanitation violations on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
