Members of the Christian New Life Church look to rebuild after fire destroys building

(02/01/04) WILLIAMSBRIDGE - A three-alarm fire early Sunday morning damaged several buildings and leaves the members of one Bronx church looking for a new house of worship.

Bronx firefighters arrived at the Christian New Life church on Whiteplains Road and 224th Street shortly after midnight. Witnesses on the scene said the blaze started at a beauty shop next door. The 200 members of the congregation were invited to hold Sunday services at the nearby Shilo Church, but they will eventually have to find a new place to call home. Several members say they look forward to rebuilding their church.

The fire took nearly three hours to extinguish. Three firefighters were taken to local hospitals for minor injuries. The cause of the blaze is still under investigation.
