Additional NYPD officers deployed to BX and city's most dangerous schools
On Monday, more than 100 NYPD officers were deployed to the city's most dangerous schools.
As part of Phase 2 of Mayor Bloomberg's school safety crackdown, 150 NYPD officers have been stationed at the 12 most dangerous schools citywide. Earlier this year, security was increased at schools labeled the most dangerous by the mayor. Five of those schools are in the Bronx. The Bronx schools on the list are Evander Childs H.S., Adlai Stevenson H.S., Christopher Columbus H.S., JHS 22 and I.S. 22.
There will now be at least 10 extra police officers at each of the schools. They will be patrolling both inside and outside the schools.
Bronx students have mixed reactions about security. Some say having additional officers makes them feel as if they are in prison while others say the added security is needed.
In addition to the new security measure, five new suspension centers will be opening Monday.
