Water main break in Highbridge halts traffic and disrupts water service

A construction mishap sent gallons of water pouring onto Jerome Avenue Wednesday.

While a construction company was working on the sewers, they hit a 20-inch water main, sending water shooting into the air. Businesses on Jerome Avenue were forced to close, traffic came to a screeching halt and many basements were flooded.

Officials have cut water to the buildings in the area while crews work to repair the break. Right now there is no time frame as to when the water will be restored. For one man who owns a Laundromat, no water means no business.
