St. Catharine's Academy cheerleading squad set to compete in nationals

The cheerleading squad at St. Catharine's Academy is off to Florida to compete in the nationals.

The 22-member squad is the first Bronx team to make it to the national competition in Orlando, Florida. It is also the first time a team from the school has made it this far.

Making it to the nationals is a big deal to the girls because a few years ago, the school almost had to get rid of the team because they lost their coach. But thanks to two Iona college students who stepped in to help coach the girls the team has done well.

The girls say they worked hard to get where they are, practicing four days a week, three hours a day. They also raised money to help pay for the trip. The competition is from Friday, February 6 to Monday, February 9.
