Soldier from the Bronx killed in Iraq is laid to rest at St. Raymond's
Family and friends of the 19-year-old soldier killed in Iraq said their final goodbyes Friday.
Army Private Luis Moreno died after being shot while guarding a gas station in Baghdad. Moreno, who moved from the Dominican Republic to the U.S. in 1991, was described as someone who considered himself American.
During the memorial service, his family received the bronze star medal for heroism and achievement of service during military action against an armed force. The Purple Heart was also awarded to his family.
In honor of his service in the armed forces, Mayor Bloomberg has written to President Bush asking that Moreno be granted citizenship posthumously.
Moreno was laid to rest at St. Raymond's Cemetery in Throgs Neck.
