Teachers' union and education officials still trying to work out a contract deal

Teachers' union members and education officials returned to the bargaining table Friday.

Bronx and city teachers have been without a contract since last May. Both the United Federation of Teachers and the Department of Education have not been able to reach an agreement.

The last time the two sides met was in September when the UFT presented its proposal for a new contract. Some of the key issues of the proposal were class sizes, health benefits and salaries. So far, the negotiators for the teachers' union say they are not happy with what the Department of Education has offered.
