Parkchester tenants on McGraw Ave. still without gas after manhole explodes
(02/07/04) PARKCHESTER - Hundreds of Bronx tenants living at 2049, 2053, 2055 and 2059 McGraw Avenue still cannot cook a hot meal in their own home. Their gas was shut off Wednesday when a manhole exploded.
Con Edison employees say they had to fix a portion of the gas lines as a result of the manhole explosion. The workers also say they cannot turn on the gas until Parkchester management officials change the valves behind every stove in the four Bronx buildings affected. Many Bronx tenants say building managers are giving them various answers on how long process will last.
A Parkchester management spokesperson told News 12 The Bronx if crews can get into all the Bronx apartments and if Con Ed officials say the gas lines are OK after testing them, tenants could have gas by Monday. But it could also take a few weeks if things do not run as smoothly, they add.
