Some developers rush to build in Throgs Neck before new zoning laws take effect

(02/08/04) THROGS NECK - Potential new zoning laws are expected to take effect by next year in Throgs Neck. According to Community Board 10 District Manager James Vacca, some developers are rushing to build before the zoning legislation is signed.

At issue are units that house three or more families. Many Throgs Neck residents say the properties are causing parking problems. They also say homes do not fit the character of the neighborhood. New zoning laws would prevent this problem. But since the legislation has not been signed yet, some say developers are trying to take advantage and build as quickly as possible.

Officials from community board 10, Department of City Planning members, and Mayor Bloomberg must approve the new zoning laws before they can take effect.
