Two Bronx boys struck with falling debris from Fordham building

Two Bronx boys were hurt after falling debris came crashing down from an apartment building and fire officials say winter weather may be to blame. The accident happened around 4:30 p.m. Monday at 2720 Grand Concourse in Fordham. A 10-year-old boy, who was walking with his father and two siblings, was struck by falling brick. A 4-year-old boy was also hit while walking along the street with his mother. Both boys were taken to the hospital and are in stable condition. Fire officials say the recent freezing weather may have caused moisture beneath the brick to freeze and push the brick outward. As a precaution, the Department of Buildings evacuated residents from two floors of the building; they were allowed to reenter a few hours later. The building owner has been charged with two violations.
