Police step up patrols in Throgs Neck after teen says she was almost abducted

(02/14/04) THROGS NECK - A 15-year-old girl told police a man in a car tried to abduct her on E. Tremont Ave. Now, police have stepped up patrol in the area as a precaution.

The teen reported to police that on Thursday afternoon a man in late-model car was following her after she got off the school bus. She said the man asked her questions about her clothes and then asked for her phone number.

The girl then told police she refused the man's advances and that's when he got out of the car and began to follow her. She claims he tried to push her in the car but she managed to get away.

School officials and parents are now taking precautions as kids leave school.

So far, police say they have not been able to locate a car that fits the girl's description. Anyone with information on last week's attempted abduction is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (1-800) 577-TIPS (8477)
