Police still investigating morning shootout in Longwood; both men, one cop injured

(02/14/04) LONGWOOD - Police are still investigating the motive behind a shooting in Longwood. Cops say it happened just after 8 a.m. Saturday morning.

They say one man was firing at another in front of 946-950 Hoe Avenue. That is when police say three quality of life officers from the 41st Precinct arrived at the scene. They say one man was lying on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound. The other was standing in the street with a gun and started firing at the officers. Police fired back, wounding the man. One police officer was also injured in the shooting after diving under a parked car to dodge a bullet. Nearby residents say Hoe Avenue is a dangerous block.

Cops say they recovered two 9 mm handguns from the shooting suspect.
