Dozens of Bronx students protest mayor's school safety measures

Dozens of students took to the steps of City Hall to protest the mayor's use of additional safety officers.

This year, Mayor Bloomberg implemented a new school safety initiative citywide. Under the plan, 12 schools citywide were designated as the 'most dangerous' and additional safety officers and NYPD officers were placed at those schools. Out of the 12 schools, five are in the Bronx and include Evander Childs High School, Christopher Columbus High School, Adlai Stevenson High School, MS 222 and CIS 22.

The new initiative has since sparked controversy among teachers, students and parents. Some students say the extra security officers make them uneasy. The students say they would like to see less security and more support staff.
