Corrections officers search for inmate who escaped a Hunts Point holding facility

(02/21/04) HUNTS POINT - Corrections officers are still searching for a Bronx man who escaped from a holding facility in Hunts Point. They say 19-year-old Ivan Jones escaped sometime before 2 p.m. on Friday.

Corrections officers at the Vernon Bain Center noticed he was missing while they were loading inmates onto a transport vehicle for transfer to Riker's Island. They immediately locked down the facility and did an inmate recount. A massive search followed.

Jones, whose former address is on Aqueduct Avenue, was taken into custody on February 6 on charges of third-degree robbery, burglary and resisting arrest.

Department of corrections officials ask anyone with information about Ivan Jones to call crime stoppers at (1-800) 577-TIPS (8477). There is a $2,000 reward for information leading to Jones' arrest and indictment.
