Fordham Bedford community activists say crime, drug trafficking is on the rise

(02/22/04) FORDHAM BEDFORD - Police claim crime is down in the Fordham Bedford neighborhood in the Bronx, but some community members disagree. Community activists say the drug trade has reasserted itself.

Some folks feel they have lost control of their neighborhood. Within one week, there were two shootings and a fatal stabbing two blocks from each other. Some activists say crime is up and drug dealers are getting more brazen.

According to watchdog group "Citi-Limits," more than 40 percent of crime in the 52nd Precinct occurs in the Fordham Bedford neighborhood.
