Carrion to focus on jobs and the economy in his State of the Borough address

The borough president will deliver his State of the Borough address Thursday.

Last year, Bronx Borough President Adolfo Carrion Jr. used his State of the Borough address to discuss economic development, the environment and education. He promised better schools, healthier living conditions and a stronger Bronx economy.

Now he is preparing to once again deliver his annual address. Although he is expected to focus on a lot of the same topics, one of the big issues will be jobs in the Bronx. In his speech he is expected to launch the Bronx at Work Campaign, which is an initiative aimed at bringing and keeping business in the Bronx. Carrion is also hoping to make job hunting easier for Bronx residents through the use of an Internet and phone database.

Carrion will also spend a portion of his address highlighting his achievements in 2003, which include a new health initiative and changes in the borough's schools.

The State of the Borough address will be carried live on News 12 The Bronx Thursday beginning at noon.
