Stretch of stores near the Cross Bronx now ready for business

A stretch of stores on the Cross Bronx Expressway that were once abandoned are now open.

Thanks to a $1 million renovation project, residents can now buy bagels, get haircuts and pick up DVD's at any one of the new businesses near Olmstead Avenue. Just one year ago, all that could be seen in the area was trash and some boarded up buildings.

Right now, five stores are open. A pharmacy and an auto parts store are expected to open later this month. There are two vacant spots still left but the landlord says he only wants the right kind of tenants.

The landlord says he wanted to provide an atmosphere that was secure and inviting.
