16 kids at P.S. 5 taken to the hospital after inhaling asthma medication

Sixteen second-graders at P.S. 5 were hospitalized Thursday after inhaling asthma medication.

Emergency crews were called to P.S. 5 after students at the school inhaled asthma medication that belonged to a student's mother. Emergency Medical Services worker Wayne Baskin says the kids were taken to the hospital but all are in stable in condition. He says the kids were scared and nervous.

According to EMS workers, school officials became aware of the situation after kids from the school told their parents Wednesday that they saw some kids taking the medicine. School officials say they are investigating the incident.

Some parents say they are worried because teachers didn't catch what was happening sooner.
