Report shows teen pregnancy rates have decreased in the Bronx
Recent reports suggest teen pregnancy rates have been going down in the Bronx. The pregnancy rate among girls between 15 and 19 has dropped 30 percent from 1990 to 2000.
Experts say the numbers suggest a decrease in sexual activity and an increase in the use of effective contraception. The rate has decreased amongst all ethnic groups, but officials say the biggest drop was seen in African-American teenagers.
Despite the falling numbers, the Bronx still has the highest teen pregnancy rate in the city. Recent studies also show more Bronx teenagers are contracting sexually transmitted diseases.
