City plans to open smaller schools throughout the Bronx and city

Students in grades 6-12 will soon have the choice of attending smaller schools.

As part of the children first initiative, the city plans to open 60 new small schools across the Bronx and city. Most of the new schools will be located in the Bronx, which is one of the boroughs that has a lot of overcrowding problems.

Officials say students in schools with smaller class sizes tend to do better academically and are more likely to go to college.

The new schools will be located at host campuses such as Evander Childs High School.
