Concern for student safety throughout the Bronx following 9-year-old's death

Bronx parents are concerned about the safety of their children following the death of a 9-year-old boy while on his way home from school.

Many Bronx parents are worried about the safety of students while traveling to and from school. One parent would like to see speed bumps and some more protection for the kids.

One area of concern is the intersection of Bronxdale and Rhinelander avenues. Parents would like more safety measures in place for students crossing to get to P.S. 83.

Another school where parents are worried about safety is P.S. 8. Parents were at the school to meet with local police and officials to request having a crossing guard and more police in the area.

At the meeting, parents were promised action would be taken to make the area around P.S. 8 safer. A captain from the 52nd Precinct promised to put in a request for a crossing guard.
