Bronx child abuse prevention task force helps protect kids from online predators

(03/13/04) WESTCHESTER SQUARE - Members of the Bronx Task Force on Child Abuse Prevention continue their efforts to catch pedophiles targeting children in Internet chat rooms.

Task force workers are trained to behave like teenagers on Internet chat rooms. They are trying to catch pedophiles before they can hurt Bronx children. Since September, the group of Bronx volunteers has been fighting cyber predators, spending hours each week typing away and keeping records of their conversations.

Bronx Task Force on Child Abuse Prevention members say they have given their cases to the NYPD and to officials in the Bronx DA's office. But so far, they have not led to any arrests. NYPD officers say they currently cannot provide information about why arrests have not been made.
