Federal benefits may be going unclaimed by Bronx residents

Some Bronx residents are unaware they may be eligible to receive federal benefits.

New York City officials are trying to get residents to claim earned income tax credits and apply for food stamp benefits. The non-profit group Children's Defense Fund claims over $1 billion a year is lost in communities where people do not take advantage of the benefits.

In order to be eligible for earned income tax credit, a person must earn less than $33,000. Salary requirements differ for married couples or people with kids.
