Two homes destroyed, two severely damaged in Morris Park blaze

Two homes were destroyed and two others were severely damaged in a four-alarm fire in Morris Park Thursday.

About 200 firefighters responded to the blaze on the 1600 block of Van Buren Street around 8 p.m. Some of the residents are blaming faulty wiring while others are blaming problems with construction.

The Department of Building, the Office of Emergency Management, and some demolition workers have been out trying to determine what will happen to the homes, and whether they should be destroyed for safety.

There were no reported injuries, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Con Edison says a customer did file a complaint back in November. He claims Con Ed did find an irregular condition there, which was corrected. New Con Ed service was installed to the home on March 15, and the spokesperson says the fire is unrelated.
