Crews spent Friday cleaning up after a water main break in Tremont

Thousands of gallons of water covered a Tremont neighborhood following Thursday's water main break.

Crews spent Friday patching up the hole on Prospect Avenue after a 20-inch water main broke around 5 p.m. Thursday. The water flooded area basements and roadways. In addition, at least three buildings on Fairmount Avenue lost water overnight.

According to the fire department, age and weather caused the pipe to burst. The Department of Environmental Protection had the pipe repaired by Friday morning.

Any Bronx residents still without water due to the water main break should call 311.
