Program for Bronx students combines fun, education

A unique new program called SCAN NY is helping students in some Bronx junior high schools raise their grades by utilizing the activities they love.

SCAN New York helps students learn by combining education with some of their favorite special interests, such as basketball, step dancing and chess. Students from area schools say their grades have improved considerably over the last marking period thanks to the program. They feel it is a great way to learn and get help with their studies.

Program Director Leon Richberg feels SCAN New York is an excellent way for children to boost their self-confidence and realize their potential. In addition to the Bronx, the program has been instituted in schools all over New York City.
