Education officials say crime at Bronx and city schools is down

The Department of Education says crime in Bronx and city schools has gone down since the start of "Operation Impact."

Under "Operation Impact," 12 schools citywide have been labeled as the most dangerous. Five of those schools are in the Bronx. Some students at Christopher Columbus High School, which is an impact school, say they have noticed a difference since the tightened security. Also on the list of most dangerous schools are Evander Childs, Adlai Stevens, CS 22 and MS 222.

Although crimes such as assaults have gone down, incidents such as cutting class and writing graffiti have gone up. The chair of the education committee says it's not enough of a change, but adds that school safety officers are doing their best.
