Bronx residents discuss 'Operation Impact' with officers in the 52nd precinct

(03/28/04) UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS - Bronx residents met some of the borough's "Operation Impact" officers on Sunday in the University Heights Section. The cops were giving out information about how the program works to lower crime.

NYPD officers say crime has gone down by 40 percent in the 52nd precinct since January of this year. They say the reason for the drop in crime is because there are 30 extra officers patrolling the area's streets as part of "Operation Impact." They say having extra police officers stationed in high-crime areas at the times when most crimes are committed is a very effective way to prevent crime.

There are a total of four "Operation Impact" zones in the Bronx. The other impact areas are in the 43rd precinct, the 46th precinct, and the newest one in the 47th precinct.
