JHS 145 parents disagree with plan to close school and open smaller schools

Parents with kids who attend JHS 145 say they disagree with the Department of Education's plan to close the school and turn it into three smaller schools. The decision by the Department of Education is part of a citywide plan to create smaller schools to ease class size.

The school's PTA sent home a letter to parents, calling on them to save the school. The PTA president says the Department of Education did the same thing at school 218 and says it's not working. She says dividing the school into smaller schools has created chaos.

But the local instructional superintendent says the new smaller schools does not mean additional students from other schools will be brought in. Instead she says there will be more staff and smaller classes.

Still, parents say despite overcrowding at JHS 145, it is the best school in the area and they would hate to see something that is working changed.
