Fire department officials urging Bronx residents to donate blood

A pint of blood can save a life. That's the message local fire departments and the New York Blood Center are trying to convey to Bronx residents.

At a blood drive Friday at Jacobi Medical Center, the borough president along with the FDNY commissioner spoke about the importance of donating blood. To help the mission, 35 fire stations in the Bronx are going to display signs showing they are committed to giving blood. Bronx residents will also be able to get information from the firehouses on how they can do their part.

Officials say they cannot stress enough that no matter how many blood drives they hold, there is never enough blood.
