Residents living in the Mohegan Apartments facing a rent increase
Hundreds of residents living in the Mohegan Community Apartments on Honeywell Avenue are faced with paying more in rent or moving.
The landlord of the Mohegan Apartments is in jeopardy of losing his Section 8 funding. The landlord claims letters have been posted throughout the building saying that the New York City Housing Authority is not going to renew his contract.
Without the funding, the landlord says residents will have to pay market value for their apartments. For a one-bedroom apartment, the rent would be $1,000 a month. Residents say they are upset and feel they have been given little notice to decide what they will do.
The landlord's contract expires April 30.
