Plan to close Bronx Terminal Market draws mixed emotions

The Bronx Terminal Market is set to close in the next few months to make way for a new retail and entertainment complex. But word of the closing is not sitting well with everyone.

Vendors who work at the market are now left with trying to figure out what they will do when the market closes. Many of the vendors cater to African and Caribbean immigrants. Those who shop at the market are sad that their favorite shops are closing.

The plan to close the market has been in the works for decades. And just last week, the borough president announced that the market's leaseholders gave up the property for development. The borough president says the new lease should create at least 3,700 news jobs in the Bronx.

As for the vendors, one option is to move to the Hunts Point produce market. If they choose to do so they would have to either buy space or rent.
