Taxi company pulls out of deal after opposition from Throgs Neck board

A plan to build a taxi company and pizza store in Throgs Neck has some worried about possible congestion.

A Papa John's pizza store is scheduled to open on East Tremont Avenue, but the possibility of a 24-hour taxi stand on the second floor of the building raised concerns with Community Board 10.

The building's landlord confirmed that the taxi company pulled out of leasing the space due to the opposition from the board. The landlord added that he didn't get any opposition from the community itself.

Some residents favored the idea of having the taxi stand and pizza combo. Several people said there are enough parking spots in the area for taxis, delivery vehicles and customers. Papa John's is negotiating for parking space with the gas station next door.

With the back of the building now available to rent, the landlord hopes Community Board 10 will assist in finding a tenant.

The Papa John's pizza store, which is the first one in the district, is expected to open during the summer.
