Governor Pataki says Van Cortlandt filtration plant will be built as planned

(04/11/04) VAN CORTLANDT PARK - There has been an ongoing debate on whether to build a water filtration plant in The Bronx. The plant would be constructed under the Mosholu Golf Course in Van Cortlandt Park.

Despite the department of environmental protection listing two other locations outside The Bronx as possible sites, plans for construction under the golf course seem to be moving ahead. A report from New York City officials states construction would be cheaper in the Bronx than in Westchester. New York Governor George Pataki recently told News 12 The Bronx that the Van Cortlandt filtration plant would be built as planned.

Plans for the project have drawn opposition from some Bronx residents living near the site. They fear that construction would limit the amount of usable park space as well as affect local traffic and health.
