Two more Bronx schools added to city's list of most dangerous schools
Two more Bronx schools have been added to the city's list of most dangerous schools. Mayor Bloomberg and school officials implemented labeling schools as "impact schools" in January as a way to lower crime and give students a safer learning environment.
Walton and Roosevelt high schools are the latest additions to the list, bringing the total number of Bronx impact schools to seven. Schools make the list because of high incidents of violence and low student performance. All of the impact schools receive added security and more NYPD officers.
Students at Walton High School feel having their school on the list gives it a negative stigma. They feel what's needed is for the education department to ease the overcrowding problem at the school.
So far, statistics show that schools that have been on the list since January have had crime go down by 7 percent.
