Riverdale residents upset over new school set to open in the fall

Residents in Riverdale are upset over the fall opening of the Urban Assembly School for Applied Math and Science, or the Fun Math School. State Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz (D-Bronx), who represents the area, says the residents are upset because they were not informed about this new school.

Officials say the Fun Math School will move into the White Hall Annex at 3223 Independent Ave. The White Hall Annex currently houses the MS/HS 368 sixth graders who do not fit into their school's main building. These students will be moving into a brand new facility in the fall. Dinowitz feels the new facility should house the Fun Math School instead of the White Hall Annex.

According to the department of education, the Fun Math School is only temporary because the White Hall Annex will not hold the anticipated 500 students.
