Financing, environmental concerns delay West Farms bus depot project

After being delayed two years, renovations to a former West Farms bus depot may soon get underway.

According to the district manager of Community Board 3, developers had to put off the project for so long because of financing and environmental concerns. He says there were issues with the interior clean up of the site as well as some asbestos problems.

Changes have also been made to the plan. Originally developers planned to build a Dunkin Donuts, a Kentucky Fried Chicken and a movie theater. But now a storage facility is set to open instead.

Community Board officials say construction should begin within the next two months. The project is expected to take a year and a half to complete.
