Some realtors say prices on NYC homes have skyrocketed within the past year

(04/24/04) RIVERDALE - The price of real estate has been going up all over the city including in the Bronx. Some realtors say prices on homes have skyrocketed within the past year.

But costs are climbing more in some areas of the Bronx than in others. Single-family homes in Bronx neighborhoods like Riverdale, Morris Park, Throgs Neck and Pelham Bay are being sold starting for as much as $400,000. Realtors say home costs are up between 10 and 20 percent this year. One Bronx realtor says it reflects an increase in consumer confidence.

Realtors say the higher prices should not scare off potential homebuyers because interest rates are still low and because of the numerous financing programs available.
