Manhattan looks to spoil Marist's perfect conference record in men's lacrosse
(04/24/04) RIVERDALE - The Manhattan Jaspers men's lacrosse team hoped to play spoilers on Saturday. They were trying to put an end to the Marist Red Foxes perfect Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) record and battle for the top spot in the conference.
With a win over Manhattan, the Red Foxes would finish the regular season unbeaten in the MAAC and clinch the conference title on enemy turf. The last team to go unbeaten in the conference was the 2002 Jaspers lacrosse team. This year's Jaspers team was looking for a win to shake things up in the MAAC and create a four-way race for the conference crown.
Saturday was senior day at Manhattan. The game was tight in the first half. The half ended with the Jaspers on top by a score of 4-3. But the Red Foxes came out on fire in the second half. Manhattan played catch-up but could not retake the lead. The Marist Red Foxes won the game 12-10 and captured the men's lacrosse MAAC title with an unbeaten conference record of 7-0 (9-5 overall.) The Jaspers drop to 4-2 in the MAAC (6-5 overall.)
