Co-op City fire kills one, forces at least a dozen residents from their apartments

An elderly woman living in Co-op City lost her life Monday morning after a fire broke out in her apartment.

Authorities tell News 12 The Bronx that it appears the woman woman fell asleep smoking in the bedroom of her 10th floor apartment at Donizetti Place.

At least a dozen residents were evacuated after the building filled with smoke. Firefighters say the fire was not deemed suspicious.
