Debate over empty lot in Kingsbridge

Debate over a new EMS station at West 230th Street and Broadway is still going on after two years.

Bronx assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz (D-Bronx) says the empty lot should be used for new businesses. Community board eight want the Bronx EMS garage built on the empty land. Dinowitz feels there may be confusion over the role of the EMS station. He says workers would not dispatch ambulances from the station, only reload them with supplies.

According to officials, the FDNY expressed interest in the site in 2002, but was ordered to cut it's budget and did not have enough money to build.

A spokesperson for Bronx borough president, Adolfo Carrion Jr., said that Carrion Jr. created a task force in 2002 to suggest alternative sites for the EMS station and that he is now looking into what the force came up with.
