Water main break causes major headaches in University Heights

A water main break forced the closure of the Fordham Road exit on the northbound Major Deegan Expressway Monday.

Department of Environmental crews believe a driver hit a fire hydrant, which caused a pipe to rupture and flood the area. Residents living in the area say they experienced low water pressure because of the water main break.

A DEP spokesperson said the crews had to dig up the pavement, patch the break and then repave the road. That made the evening commute a slow go just like the morning
