Dispute over Fordham's WFUV Radio tower ends on a musical high note
A 10-year dispute over the construction of a 280-foot tower needed by WFUV Radio has come to an end.
The station, which is housed on the campus of Fordham University, was in need of a new tower in order to get a better signal. But officials at the New York Botanical Garden did everything in their power to stop the tower from being built saying it would be an eyesore.
Since there seemed to be no end in sight to the disagreement, Montefiore Medical Center officials stepped in and offered the roof of one of the buildings they own on Gunhill Road. The cost to rent the space for the tower will be $100,000 a year.
Both the Botanical Garden and Fordham will share the cost in taking down the old antenna. Meantime, the agreement will not be official until a public hearing is held on the matter and the government approves it.
