Livery cabs to raise their fare
Livery cabs are raising their base fare $1 to a minimum charge of $6.
The drivers say the increase is needed due to high gas prices and insurance costs. A $5 surcharge will be added for trips to JFK and LaGuardia airports. According to officials, this is the first base fare hike in 10 years.
Officials say Bronx Livery cab drivers average around 20 passengers a day. The increase will give them a raise of approximately $5,000 a year.
