Bronx commuters prepare for 'D' train service switch from express to local

(05/23/04) FORDHAM - Bronx commuters are bracing for service changes on the 'D' train running along the Grand Concourse. Starting Monday, 'D' trains change from express to local between Norwood and 145th Street in Manhattan.

Transit authority officials are urging Bronx residents to leave extra time for their commute. The officials say they will perform major upgrades to the half-century-old line. Part of the work includes upgrading signals along the middle express track, which is why express service is being temporarily suspended.

Many Bronx subway riders say they are not looking forward to what could be a much longer daily commute. The suspended express service on the 'D' line will last through autumn.
