Department of Education announces it's revamped the summer school program
The Department of Education has announced that it has revamped this year's summer school program.
Education officials predict some 200,000 students in the Bronx and city will attend summer school. As part of the new and improved program, third-graders will be automatically enrolled in the Summer Success Academy. They will be given special help in reading and math, and will be in classes with no more than 15 students.
In addition, all other students will be placed in special literacy classes as well as math skills programs. Department of Education officials say they are also looking for teachers who have shown ability in supporting early grade students to fill the summer school program spots.
Parents will learn whether their child will have to attend summer school sometime in June.
